After reading the book After the Gig: How the Sharing Economy Got Hijacked and How to Win it Back by Juliet B. Schor, I used what I had learned to come up with a product and business concept that appropriately incorporates the gig economy and shared economy. In pretending that Dyson wanted to enter the shared economy through a new grocery shopping platform, I came up with Dyson SmartCart (DSC). DSC utilizes the gig economy by hiring employees, or shoppers, that can work on their own schedule by picking up "gigs" of grocery orders. It then ties in the shared economy by having the sharable assets of a smart shopping cart, a reusable system of grocery bags, produce bags and containers to make shopping faster and more sustainable.
